Porch is entered through traditional double doors, painted lipstick pink, and provides hanging and storage for coats and boots.
Inner Hall gives access to the two front rooms of the house and from which the stairs rise to the two attic bedrooms. There is a barometer for you to observe the changing weather.
Parlour, on the right, has windows to the North and West. Afternoon and evening sun lights up this room in high Summer. There is a collection of books relating to Islay’s historical past and a selection of paperbacks for light reading. Scrabble, Islay Monopoly.
Sitting Room, on the left, has a wood burning stove, useful at the beginning and end of the season. A small quantity of wood and firelighters is supplied to get you started, extra wood can be bought locally. There is a flat screen television with a DVD player (Blueray). Bring your favourite DVDs with you. Free WiFi and free telephone set to make local and emergency calls.
Kitchen/Dining Room a lovely spacious room at the back of the house facing South. The cooking area at the east end is well equipped and includes a ceramic hob, top oven with grill, fan oven, microwave, recycling extractor fan, fridge, dishwasher, liquidiser, kettle, toaster, hand held beaters, blender stick.
There is a generous supply of crockery and utensils. If you are a keen cook please bring your favourite sharp cooking knives.
At the west end of the room relax on a squashy leather sofa. There is a radio and CD player and a Scottish ‘pulley’ for airing clothes.
The back door opens out into the garden making it easy to eat outside.
Bedroom 3 opens off the Kitchen/Dining room. This is a single room with a generous Scottish ¾ bed. It has views to the South over uninterrupted farmland to the moors beyond. A pine chest of drawers and Arts & Crafts wardrobe with drawer under provide clothes storage. Under the bed there is lots of space to keep your luggage. Electric blanket and hairdryer provided.
Stairs and Landing the stairs are straight and well lit by a velux window. There is a chest of drawers on the landing.
Bedroom 1 under its original wooden ceiling is a twin bedded room. There is a period chest of drawers with mirror over, bedside units with further drawers and a small modern wardrobe. Electric blankets and hairdryer provided.
Bedroom 2 has a double bed. A period chest of drawers with mirror, a Victorian chest of drawers and a small modern wardrobe provide good storage. There is space under the bed for suitcases. Electric blanket and hairdryer provided.
Family Bathroom is on the ground floor. It has a washbasin, loo, and bath with shower. There is an electric towel rail and a panel heater. The washing machine is plumbed in here. The house is served by a septic tank.
Heating: the house is fitted with electric heating – night store and panel heaters. There is a wood burning stove in the sitting room. Further details for best use of the heaters will be sent to you once your booking is confirmed.
The cost of electricity is included in the weekly rate for the cottage.
All linen and towels are provided. Please bring your own Beach Towels.
The garden is informal and garden furniture is stored in the garden shed.
Bicycles can be kept in the shed.
Access On arrival you can reverse your car in to the garden to unload. The rest of the garden is not suitable for driving over. On a day to day basis we park the car in the large lay by on the other side of the road.
